B.O.L.D. YOUTH MINISTRY

Emory Youth are active members of the congregation and community at large.  In addition to participating in service and mission projects for homeless children and adults in the DMV, Emory Youth serve those affected by tragedy across the country on weekend mission trips.  We meet for game nights, attend events together and pray together.  We also share our love of God through music, dance and drama performances in line  with special church events throughout the year.

Our guest preacher is Jocara "JoJo" Knight Jr.

Jocara "JoJo" Knight Jr. is a dynamic 15-year-old of strong faith, academic excellence, and commitment to community service.  A proud resident of Columbia MD, he lives with his parents, Jocara Sr. and Teara Knight, and his younger sisters, Jordan and Justice.  Jocara is the nephew of Emory's cherished member, the late Henry Stewart, and grandson of our beloved Angelica Stewart.

Jocara accepted Christ at age 8 and was baptized on his 8th birthday at New Shiloh Baptist Church, where his passion for God continues to guide his life. At New Shiloh Baptist Church, Jocara is a vibrant part of the church family. He is a youth speaker, choir member in the “Beatitudes,” and a member of the Young Adult Conquerors ministry. His faith and leadership earned him the church’s Youth Young Man of the Year award in 2017.

Currently an Honor Roll 10th grader at Oakland Mills High School, Jocara excels both academically and in leadership. He serves as Class President for the Class of 2028, is a member of Alpha Achievers, where he serves as the Social Media Manager, the Student Government Association board, Band Leader and Social Media Manager and the All County Gospel Choir. As a talented musician, he plays Alto saxophone in the school’s Marching Band, Concert Band and Jazz Ensemble.

Jocara is also a passionate advocate for social justice. He serves on the NAACP Youth Council and was recognized with the First Place Howard County MLK Jr. Award in both middle (2024) and high school ( 2025) for his powerful essays. In 2025, he was named a WJZ Black History Month Oratory Finalist. He also serves as a Youth Advocate Advisor for the Youth Equity Summits, focusing on mental health, social justice, and supporting underprivileged youth.

A dedicated community servant, Jocara is the founder of JoJo’s Sock Drive, which provides socks, hats, and gloves to children in need. In December, he supplied over 200 students at Matthew Henson Elementary School with winter essentials.

Since the age of four, Jocara has felt called to ministry and delivered his first sermon at age 12. He has preached at several churches, including New Shiloh Baptist Church, First United Methodist Church of Hyattsville, Greater New Hope Baptist Church, and Christ United Methodist Church.

With aspirations to attend Morehouse College to study Political Science and Theology, Jocara Knight Jr. continues to inspire others through his unwavering faith, servant leadership, and drive to make a difference.

Our Youth Ministry Leaders

Church members Isaiah Glover and Jazmine Brown are our Youth Ministry leaders, and they're bringing exactly what our young people need!  Isaiah spends his days teaching high school math, so he knows firsthand what today's teenagers are facing. Jazmine brings eight years of teaching high school science PLUS her current work in D.C. Public Schools Administration. She's seen the education world from every angle.
Isaiah's connection runs deeper than job experience. As Pastor Daniels' nephew who grew up right here at Emory, he understands our church family in ways that can't be taught.
These new leaders aren't going it alone. Dr. Janice Parks, our worship and spiritual formation coordinator and a former youth pastor herself, is right there to guide them through this transition. And Rev. Jaleesa Hall brings many years of experience working with young people, particularly through her highly successful Raising A Village Foundation which among many things provides after school support and other educational services to students in the D.C. Public School system.
Together, they're proving what happens when a church family steps up and says "yes" to God's calling!
